Branca Tower

Being a guest at Secondo Pensiero, it's nice to know that Branca Tower stands very close to your design hotel in Milan. Projected by the famous architect and designer Giò Ponti, this iconic tower was built in the clearing of Sempione Park in 1933 in occasion of the Triennale of art. Slim and transparent, it is considered an art masterpiece where modern architecture and a new technique find a touching point.

It was built in a record time, just two and a half months. It helped to transform Milan into a capital of decorative and modern industrial arts.

Totally built with Dalmine tubes, a special steel, the tower is 108 meters tall. Branca Tower's main structure has a truncated-pyramidal shape with an hexagonal section which measures 6 meters of width. At a height of 100 meters the side of the hexagon is still 4.45. The very light tapering gives it a prismatic appearance.

During the seventies, the tower became unusable and was closed to the public. Subsequently, few years later, it was restored and made accessible again by Branca brothers, of which now bears the name.

Today a modern lift leads to the covered belvedere. It can be visited by five people at a time, who can stop at the belvedere for not more than 7 minutes. The view at the top leaves you breathless and allows to admire Milan from a different perspective, especially on clear and sunny days.
